Lavranos 42.9" Pelican Cat Ketch. Built 1996, Launched 1997 - Richards Bay, South Africa. Designer Angelo Lavranos. Builder KAS Fibreglass.
This is a true Blue Water Cruiser having cruised off East Africa for 3 years, crossing the South Atlantic to South America, up to the Caribbean, farther north to Nova Scotia and back to Florida.
GRP/Balsa core construction makes her light and strong. This boat is substantial and overbuilt. The owner of KAS fibre-glass built her for himself.
All lines lead to the cockpit for easy handling.
This rig is now recognized and proven. The 2 big sails make her well balanced, fast and very easy to handle. When you tack, you push the tiller over and the sails tend themselves. Tiller steering makes the boat respond much more quickly. The real beauty of the free standing masts is that there is no standing rigging to clutter the decks or to be replaced, no chain plates to leak.
- 2 free standing fiberglass masts and self tending booms
- Anchor light (10)
- Steaming light (10)
- Nav lights (10)
- 2 Doyle fully battened sails (good condition)
